CCTA General Manager

The Chittenden County Transportation Authority seeks a General Manager

The General Manager serves as the organization’s chief executive officer and oversees a five county transit organization that in 2011 had approximately 200 employees, an operating budget of $18M and a capital budget of $6M. The General Manager has strong leadership skills, a proven track record of executing a strategic plan, and encourages long-range strategic thinking in an ever changing public transportation climate. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communications skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Forward the mission of the organization by carrying out all policies and directives established by the Board of Commissioners
  2. Responsible for fostering a high-performing and professional culture throughout the Authority
  3. Articulate a compelling vision for the region’s public transit system that makes our service a more utilized and valued asset
  4. Work collaboratively with the Board in developing and meeting its goals and objectives, including facilitating organizational support of Board committee work
  5. Engage in strategic planning in conjunction with the Board and implementation of such plan
  6. Responsible for organizational management and structure
  7. Supervises, evaluates and directs all members of the Senior Management team
  8. Develops and manages the organization’s annual budget
  9. Responsible for safety, insurance, and all other risk management functions within the organization
  10. Responsible for managing legal issues affecting the Authority including collective bargaining
  11. Primary responsibility for local, state and federal government relations

A Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field is required; a Master’s Degree is preferred. The salary range is open, dependent upon qualifications, and is accompanied by an excellent benefits package.

Essential Job Skills and Abilities: Must possess excellent financial management, leadership, analytical, organizational, public speaking and communication skills; demonstrated experience in customer relations and strong interpersonal skills that foster collaborative working relationships with the board, employees, and the community. Must have experience in labor negotiations with a union.

GMTA is looking for part-time bus drivers with excellent customer service skills, great driving records and a positive team attitude to join our team. A CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements is required. Several positions at both locations are available.

Year-round Part-time and Seasonal CDL Bus Drivers:

Green Mountain Transit Agency (GMTA) is hiring year-round part-time bus drivers in the Washington County area. We are also recruiting for seasonal drivers for our winter services in both Stowe and Sugarbush. Drivers must have excellent customer service skills. Pre-employment background checks and testing are required.

Experience: A CDL is preferred but GMTA is willing to train the right candidates for their CDL endorsements. Previous driving experience is essential.
